My dad is a big history buff…the Phillippine Insurrection in particular.
I have heard him sing the “Civilize ‘em with a Krag” song many times, but another one is one that I have not found a trace of online. This song was very popular with our troops, according to my dad:

“There’s a virgin on the island of Samar.
There’s a virgin so they say,
For she just turned six today.
There’s a virgin on the island of Samar.”

I would like to know if anyone has the rest of the lyrics to this song. It is obviously very insensitive, but it is, I believe, a part of the historical record.

Edwin Starr and Jona Lewie definitely need to be on the list. I’ve never heard of that Slovenian band, but I’ll fix that.

Not entirely sure if this song is pro-war, but it certainly comes close. Check out the song “I Want To Be In The Calvary” by Corb Lund.

Of course there is ‘War’ by Edwin Starr, a blatant anti-Vietnam song. There is also ‘Stop the Cavalry’ by Jona Lewie. I have also just found an interesting album entitled NATO by a Slovenian band called Laibach. They cover ‘War’ and ‘The Final Countdown’.

That is what I used it for when teaching the Cold War to ‘A’ Level students. I told them to use it a revision too.
