Hello, my name is Robert Thompson and history is my passion. I have a Bachelor of Arts from Virginia Wesleyan College and an MA in History from Wilfrid Laurier University. As of August 2009, I began the journey of earning my PhD in American History at the University of Southern Mississippi. While attending WLU I wrote my Major Research Paper on the role of the US Coast Artillery Corps on the Western Front during the First World War. Initially drawn towards history by the physical display of power by nations, at the doctoral level I intend to explore the cultural and social aspects of 20th-Century American warfare. Specifically, my studies center around the World Wars and Vietnam.
Much of my free time is spent reading, listening to music, watching tv, and playing the Wii (I seem to be addicted to Call of Duty: World at War). Of course I adore spending time with my wife, family, and friends. My favorite book is The Stranger, by Albert Camus. In terms of history, I’ve read too many good books to start naming favorites. The three bands I listening to on a regular basis are Depeche Mode, The Cure, and The Chameleons. However, my music collection is dominated by all things 80′s (see for yourself at Last.fm). This list would be incomplete if I neglected to mention that I am a huge Washington Capitals fan, and a fan of all things hockey.
Read about my past experiences in my favorite city, Vienna.
